  • Cut and finish African Caribbean type hair using barbering techniques

  • Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
  • Style hair using basic plaiting techniques and added hair
  • Perm and neutralise hair using basic techniques
  • Change hair colour using basic techniques
  • Dry hair to shape to create finished looks for men
  • Perm, relax and neutralise hair
  • Perm, relax and neutralise African Caribbean hair
  • Provide scalp massage services

Depends on training provider/college but generally takes 1 year

Requirements For Course

Depends on training provider/college but generally requirements are 4 GCSEs at D or above including English, or previous experience, or NVQ 1 in Hairdressing.

How You’re Assessed

The course is continuously assessed with some external assessment and testing through written and practical assignments/tests.

Qualification And Future Prospects

Qualification – NVQ level 2 barbering

Future Prospects – This course is a recognised route into a full-time Level 3 course, employment or an Apprenticeship via a Training Agency

  • Contribute to the financial effectiveness of the business

Depends on training provider/college but generally requirements are NVQ level 2 Barbering, NVQ level 2 Hairdressing or recent industry experience

How You’re Assessed

Students will be assessed through assessment is by practical observation, oral questioning, written essential knowledge papers set by the awarding body. A portfolio of evidence will also be assessed by an internal or external verifier.
